Complimentary Examination Visit for children under the age of 2:
The best way to begin a lifetime of excellent oral health care is to start early. Your child's first visit to our office should occur between 6 and 12 months of age or around the time your child gets their first tooth. This is the ideal time for one of our specially trained hygienists to evaluate your child's oral and dental health, as well as to diagnose any problems which may exist. A complimentary examination in our office includes:
- A meeting with one of our specially trained dental hygienists
- Information about your child's medical history and your dental concerns
- A discussion about your child's dietary and feeding habits
- An examination of the mouth for possible dental caries or other problems
- An assessment of the need for fluoride supplements and make suggestions
- An explanation of age-appropriate oral hygiene techniques
Most important we will make your child's first visit an enjoyable one. Remember to bring your camera, your child will receive a certificate and free gift.
The First Visit for children 2 and older:
Meeting with Dr. Matthews
- A thorough oral examination and cleaning in the office as well as checking your child's bite (occlusion)
- A fluoride treatment for those children who are ready
- Obtaining x-ray films for diagnostic purposes (only as needed)
We follow the guidelines from the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry and the American Dental Association
- Our specialty trained hygienists will consult with you on home oral hygiene, the need for fluoride and the individual special needs of your child
- If further visits are needed with Dr. Matthews, a diagnostic treatment plan will be reviewed with you
- Mention the website and your child will receive a free spinbrush on your first visit
